2K Hires Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Response
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a clearer game identity.
The president noted that the developers is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Below is the full content from the president's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game testing phase was informative. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a sharper brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to consideration and revamped the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our audience.
The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following a period of conversations, he comes aboard us on next week.
Ben’s leadership and experience in the competitive gaming field is vast, having spent the recent years creating and leading some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all excited to keep observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
David

Game Details and Concept

"Take on the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is in your hands."
The game has not yet received an official release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can anticipate further news as development progresses.
